OIE Reports Anthrax Outbreak in Botosani
ROMANIA - Dr Geronimo Raducu Branescu, President Secretary of State Chief Veterinary Officer, has reported an outbreak of Anthrax in cattle located in Botosani.

A report was sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Wednesday, 17 October, wherein the causal agent was found to be Bacillus Anthracis, after a bacteriological examination was carried out at the Institute of Diagnostic and Animal Health.
A total of 20 animals were found susceptible, out of which one case was identified. The affected animal was reportedly found dead as a result of the disease. None of the remaining 19 animals were killed and disposed of and/or slaughtered.
Some of the control measures that have been applied include official disposal of carcasses, by-products and waste, selective killing and disposal and disinfection. Vaccination has also been permitted (if a vaccine exists).
The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
