Spain and Poland top EU meat production in 2024 - report
Pig and poultry output led by a handful of member states

Spain, Poland and France accounted for the largest shares of European Union meat production in 2024, according to Eurostat’s Key figures on the European food chain – 2025 edition.
Spain produced 5.0 million tonnes of pig meat in 2024, representing 23.5% of total EU pig meat production. Germany accounted for a slightly smaller share at 20.3%, while France provided the next highest contribution at 9.9%. All other EU countries had single-digit shares.
Poland recorded the highest level of poultry meat production in 2024 at 2.9 million tonnes, accounting for 20.5% of the EU total. Three other EU countries had double-digit shares: Spain at 12.8%, France at 12.2% and Germany at 10.9%.
France produced 1.3 million tonnes of bovine meat in 2024, accounting for 19.7% of total EU production. Germany followed with a 15.3% share, while Spain accounted for 10.9%. Italy, Poland and Ireland also recorded relatively high shares at 10.0%, 9.7% and 9.2%, respectively.
Spain held the largest share of EU sheep meat production in 2024 at 26.6%, equivalent to 98,500 tonnes. France followed at 18.4%, with Ireland accounting for 17.0% and Greece for 11.5%. Goat meat production was led by Greece with a 38.8% share, followed by Spain at 23.5% and France at 15.8%.
