Panama government hears concerns of milk producers in Montijo
Milk collection centre and drought plan hot topics of discussion

By: Panama's minister of agriculture (MIDA), Alexis Pineda, heard the concerns of the Association of Milk Producers "Ricardo Velasco" of Montijo in the province of Veraguas. Issues raised include the benefit of having a drought plan and a milk collection centre, according to a news release from Panama's ministry of agriculture.
Pineda reiterated the support of MIDA and promised to meet the needs of all through an open dialogue. According to the government-issued press release, one of the objectives of the ministry is to ensure producers are fairly paid and to guarantee food security for its citizens.
Led by president of the guild José Him, the producer group took the opportunity to request to be included in the Drought Plan to be prepared with the watering holes and drilling of wells, in addition to processing the renewal of the contract of a milk collection centre.
Him explained that the guild has about 50 producers, who collect more than 1,500 liters of Grade C milk daily, which they market in different cheese and milk processing companies. He thanked them for the attention given to them where he said he was satisfied with the positive responses they received from Minister Pineda.
