dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health today announced the launch of its Sustell™ Carbon Value Program, a breakthrough solution designed to help the agri-food value chain reduce carbon footprints at low cost – or even at a profit. This program enables companies to decarbonize their value chains, meet sustainability targets, comply with reporting requirements, and benefit financially from the achieved emissions reductions.

“Sustainability is about smarter production — getting more from less, cutting waste, and building stronger, more efficient farms and food systems,” said Dr. Heinz Flatnitzer, Global Head of Emissions Value Management at dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health.

“With the Sustell™ Carbon Value Program we help our clients scale carbon reductions with transparency, credibility, and measurable returns. By fostering farm-to-fork collaboration, partners across the value chain can achieve verified emission footprints with full traceability and additional financial value. We invite more companies to join us on this profitable journey toward a more sustainable food system.”

Why it matters

Agrifood, retailer, CPGs, and food service companies need to cut greenhouse gas emissions to meet sustainability targets that are driven by commitments, science-based targets, or customer demands. To achieve lower emissions, full value chain collaboration is required.

Farming accounts for a large proportion of the environmental footprint of food and beverage products. Innovative and scientifically proven animal nutrition solutions offer an off-the-shelf method to improve farm efficiency, profitabili and sustainability.

“On-farm nutritional interventions offer a turn-key way to improve farming income while reducing the Scope 3 environmental emissions of downstream companies in a cost-effective manner,” explained Dr. Flatnitzer.

The program package

The Sustell™ Carbon Value Program covers the full set of requirements to reduce carbon footprints while providing a financial upside. The program package includes:

·      ISO-assured footprint measurement via the Sustell™ life cycle assessment platform.

·      The prerequisite protocols to credibly transfer emission reductions across the value chain.

·      Expertise on animal nutrition and sustainability to deliver impact from farm to fork.

As part of the effort, dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health has initiated pilot projects with various players in the agri-food industry, connecting retailers to producers and feed millers. The pilots are aimed to demonstrate the scalability and positive business value for all value chain players of sustainability transformation.
