Brazil milk prices fall for seventh straight month
Cepea cites oversupply as production and imports climb
Brazil’s average milk price fell 5.9% in October to BRL 2.2996 per litre, according to Cepea, marking the seventh consecutive monthly decline in real terms. Prices were down 21.7% from a year earlier, with excess supply suggesting the downward trend may continue through year-end.
Cepea says supply has been buoyed by last year’s investments and favourable weather, which supported production in the Southeast and Central-West and softened the typical seasonal dip in the South. The Cepea Milk Production Index rose 1.65% from September to October and is up 13.6% so far this year.
Imports also expanded domestic availability. Brazil brought in 214.73 million litres (milk equivalent) in October, an 8.4% increase from September, while exports fell 23.2% to 4.55 million litres.
