Brazil milk prices fall 3.3% in April despite firm supply
Sales slowdown and weak demand weigh on dairy marketThe average net price for milk produced in April closed at BRL 2.7415 per litre (Brazil Average), down 3.3% from the previous month, according to a recent market report from Cepea.
Despite the decline, prices were still 5.7% higher than in April 2024 in real terms, adjusted by the IPCA inflation index.
This drop comes at an unusual time of year but is attributed to increased supply and lower consumer demand for dairy products. A Cepea survey conducted with support from the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB) found that dairy product sales in April slowed more than anticipated.
Milk production remained strong even as the offseason approached. The Cepea Milk Production Index (ICAP-L) rose 3% from March to April. While feed costs remain high, their volatility has eased compared to previous periods.
