U.S. resists meatpacker's call for mad cow tests

ARKANSAS CITY - In one 3- to 4-pound plop after the next, cattle tongues slap onto a chilly table. A year ago, with the help of the Japanese market, the box of 10 tongues would be worth almost $200. Not today. Americans don't care much for tongue and pay well under $1 a pound for it. Adoring Japanese customers paid up to $5 a pound.
