Third German BSE case found
GERMANY - The state of Schleswig-Holstein has recorded its third case of mad-cow disease this year, a state ministry said on Wednesday. The case was discovered during a routine investigation. The state also is the site of the country's first recorded case in 2000. Mad-cow disease, formally called bovine spongiform encephalopathy, is thought to be linked to a usually fatal human illness called variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Scientists believe it originated in Britain when cattle were given feed containing the ground remains of sheep infected with a brain ailment.Source: Faz.net
