Getting beef back into Japan no simple process

US - When the door slammed shut on U.S. beef exports to Japan in December 2003, Chuck Lambert packed his bags and got on a plane to Tokyo. Lambert, the U.S. Department of Agriculture deputy undersecretary for marketing, has been back many times since, and he spent Feb. 9 and 10 on a video conference with his counterparts at Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries sorting out remaining details in a 6-month-old framework agreement designed to reopen Japanese beef trade.
