US urged to 'go slow' on cattle imports
US - John Hoeven, Republican governor of North Dakota, wants the US to adopt a "go slow" approach to the resumption of Canadian live cattle imports, to ensure that any reopening of the border comes only when Japan and South Korea reopen their markets to US beef. While only a handful of cases of "mad cow" disease have emerged in Canada, the issue has become the most difficult facing Mike Johanns, the new US agriculture secretary.Source: Financial Times
