Science Versus Mad Cows

KOREA - Leon Edwards left Korea frustrated, but somewhat optimistic. He knows he has science on his side but, in the struggle with the powers-that-be, he also knows that politics usually make for a more compelling force. Mr. Edwards is the Deputy Minister of Agriculture for the Canadian government. He was in town last week for talks with his Korean counterpart on reopening the Korean beef market, which has been closed to Canadian beef since a single case of mad-cow disease was discovered on an Alberta farm two years ago.
