Part of Corteva’s FarmMoreForage initiative, Forage Bites provides timely, in-season updates via monthly e-newsletters.

There is growing interest in optimizing the quality and quantity of homegrown forage. Forage Bites helps build the skills and knowledge to do that. It majors on grassland and maize, has an agronomy focus and covers three core phases of the production cycle most easily influenced by farmers - Sow, Nurture, Improve.

The first issue of Forage Bites covers an introduction to FarmMoreForage, with "Sow" detailing trials results of new maize hybrids. "Nurture" explores which herbicide to use on your grassland and new sown leys, as well as advice on controlling early weeds such as docks and chickweed. "Improve" covers how to boost maize yields using the nitrogen stabilizer Optinyte, and the approval for organic use of all Pioneer Brand silage inoculants.

Corteva’s crop protection Category Manager for forage crops, Robin Bentley, explains more: “Forage Bites equips livestock farmers with well-timed information and guidance to support them in producing the best homegrown forage. With many grass and maize management decisions timing is critical, so each month we will bring relevant advice and actionable solutions from our experts.

“Through each phase of the forage production cycle Corteva can provide solutions to enhance the production of homegrown forage. We are a global R&D company with an exciting pipeline of new support tools coming through over the next few years and Forage Bites will be used to showcase them.

“We continue to receive increasing interest and technical enquiries from livestock farmers. They are looking for advice on a range of areas from dealing with a weed burden in a new sown ley, to enhancing silage quality through a better choice of inoculant and wanting to grow a maize variety best suited to their needs. This reflects the attention being given to accessing the financial, nutritional and environmental benefits of producing excellent homegrown forage. Forage Bites renews our pledge to support farmers on this journey,” concludes Robin.
