Cattle Imports to Boost Filipino Dairy Industry

14 March 2019

PHILIPPINES - The Philippines is set to import at least 1,500 cattle as part of the government’s program to strengthen the local dairy industry.

National Dairy Authority (NDA) Administrator Marilyn Mabale said the agency had allocated up to P300 million for the importation of additional Girolando dairy cattle.

The 1,500 additional cattle, Ms Mabale said, follows a failed bidding last year.

"We are going to rebid the purchase hopefully by April after consulting the farmers and complying the technical requirements of the board of directors. We hope the animals (dairy cattle) will be distributed by October this year," Ms Mabale said at the sidelines of the NDA’s celebration of its 24th anniversary on Tuesday.
