FrieslandCampina is interested in the certification of its Top Dairy line with an extra focus on animals, nature and climate by SMK. Reason for this is the integral approach towards sustainability for SMK quality label 'On the way to PlanetProof'.

Also, SMK being an independent accredited certification organisation, is essential in this respect. To obtain this quality label, the milk and the dairy products have to get a high score in the sustainability areas of animal welfare, biodiversity and climate. Additionally, the milk has to meet the criteria concerning outdoor grazing and being land bound.

More sustainable assortment

FrieslandCampina is pleased that some supermarket chains already have indicated that they are interested in listing PlanetProof milk and dairy products. By doing this, they make their assortment more sustainable. Also, FrieslandCampina welcomes that environmental and nature organisations have expressed their enthusiasm for this initiative.

Extra payment for farmers

As participating in the PlanetProof quality label requires additional sustainability efforts, FrieslandCampina will pay the participating member dairy farmers extra for this milk. The company announced that it is working on a sustainable dairy line in April 2018. FrieslandCampina aspires to introduce the first certified sustainable dairy products into the Dutch market early in the year 2019.
