Around 64,000 tons of yogurt drink worth $69 million were exported over the same period to register a 22 per cent decline in volume and 28 per cent increase in value year-on-year, ISNA reported.

Iran's Financial Tribune reports that yogurt and yogurt drink combined accounted for 20 per cent and 13 per cent of Iran’s overall dairy exports during the period respectively.

The above figures indicate that the price of Iranian yogurt and yogurt drink has increased in the international markets during the period.

Also known as Ayran, tan and doogh, the yogurt drink is a savory yogurt-based beverage. It is popular in Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, North Caucasus, the Balkans, Afghanistan and Lebanon. It is made by mixing yogurt and chilled or iced water and is sometimes carbonated and seasoned with salt and herbs.
