The programme, under a state and private firm collaboration scheme, will begin in 2018 on a 20-hectare plot of land controlled by the state penitentiaries, said the Law and Human Rights Ministry’s director general of penitentiaries, I Wayan Dusak, on Monday.

“We’ll call for tenders to find partners. The tender call is being prepared now. I hope the programme will start next year,” he said, without revealing the investment figure.

If the plan runs well, the center is expected to be jointly operated by selected inmates and staff members from the private firms and produce up to 14,000 head of cattle each year, he added.
