Spain’s Food Control and Information Agency (AICA) has been advised by the Navarre branch of the Union of Farmers and Ranchers that it will receive notice relating to a “multitude of practices contrary to the recently approved Food Quality Act”.

Farmers in northern Spain say milk at 60 cents per litre is “bait” to catch consumers, while codes of business practice are being violated.

French based retailer E. Leclerc was singled out for its promotional giveaway of six free litres of milk with every purchase over €30.

The union also listed Lidl, Carrefour, Eroski, Mercadona, Coviran and DIA as supermarkets retailing milk for below 60 cents per litre.
