Beef market unaffected by BSE case

US - The markets - live cattle, cattle futures and beef - on Monday essentially ignored the Friday announcement that a U.S.-born cow had tested positive for mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy. While the markets fell at the opening bell, by day's end fed-cattle futures were up 35 cents a hundred pounds to $82.52 per hundredweight (cwt). Fed cattle are those ready for slaughter at 1,200 pounds.
