Amul Confirms K Rathnam as MD

INDIA - Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited (KDCMPUL), known as Amul Dairy has confirmed the appointment of K Rathnam as managing director (MD) of the co-operative union.

Rathnam was holding the charge of MD in charge since March 2014, after former MD Rahul Kumar left the co-operative sector to join world's largest dairy group, Le Groupe Lactalis.

Till March this year, Rathnam was general manager, till he took over as MD designate.

Mr Rathnam has spent nearly 20 years with Amul in various capacities.

Hailing from Salem district, Tamil Nadu, Rathnam joined Amul Dairy in 1995 as deputy manager (product development) responsible for development of several products.

He graduated from Coimbatore and holds postgraduate degree from Sardar Patel University (SPU), Rathnam. He also holds a doctorate in foods and nutrition, had taught for three years at SPU, before joining Amul Dairy.

Under his leadership, the dairy union set up India's most modern dairy plant at Virar, a suburb of Mumbai, with robotic milk packing technology used for the first time in the country.
