A total of 100 animals - 73 cattle and 27 sheep - were confirmed with the disease, according to World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) reports. All animals were destroyed.

The Source of the outbreak is unknown. Animal health experts believed the disease to be serotype A but OIE reference laboratory results revealed serotype O.

This is the fourth outbreak after three infected holdings were reported at the start of the year in the Sukhbaatar region, lying north of the capital.

The number of current cases currently stands at 171 with all prior infections exclusive to cattle.

Comprehensive vaccination procedures are at the centre of control measures which have vaccinated hundreds of thousands of sheep, cattle and goats for FMD.
