BSE Crisis Opens New Markets for Beef in Canada

CANADA - "Walking into Spenst Bros. Premium Meats in Winkler, Manitoba is enough to make you want to take the word "disaster" out of our BSE vocabulary," says Laura Rance, associate editor of the Farmers' Independent Weekly, in a CBC Radio editorial. "Brothers Paul and Garreth, both in their 20s, along with their wives and parents, opened for business in May and are now marketing their own beef along with other Manitoba-grown food products -- to Manitobans instead of North Americans."
