Beef producers reap benefit of live exports and BSE

AUSTRALIA - A new survey of beef producers shows the introduction of live cattle exports and America's BSE crisis have helped improve their financial performance. ABARE surveyed 1,100 producers, with an average herd size of 1,400 cattle. Japan's decision to ban US beef imports 18 months ago has boosted income for Australian producers, and report author Peter Martin says that has helped them buy more land.
