FMD Vaccination Period Extended After Weather Delays

PARAGUAY – The National Animal Health and Quality Service (SENASCA) has called for a foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccination extension after adverse weather conditions disrupted the original vaccination window.

Originally scheduled to close on Friday 8 March, the vaccination period will now run until 22 March allowing for registration up until 5 April.

The decision follows heavy hail and thunder storms across the country which have left fields waterlogged and in an unfit state to carry out vaccination operations.

The worst of the weather has been in Eastern areas where some roads have become impassable.

SENASCA has reassured that vaccination is progressing ‘properly’ and will continue to treat over 4 million susceptible animals nationwide.
