Brazil Needs to 'Ensure Food Supply'
BRAZIL - The chief executive of the Brazilian Poultry Union (UBABEF), Francisco Turra, said yesterday (22 November) that the world will continue to consume more and more animal protein and that Brazil needs to ensure competitiveness in the supply of these foods.

"Logistics is getting worse," said Turra, citing deficiencies in road and rail infrastructure.
"We need to move the corn from the Midwest to the South," he added, referring to the importance of this grain as an input for poultry and swine feed, concentrated mainly in Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina.
Turra also defends the importance of a specific policy for emergency problems regarding the supply of corn.
The president explained UBABEF sector efforts to open new markets such as Indonesia and Pakistan, and to remove barriers to markets already formally opened, like India, where the import duty is 100 per cent.
