Schmallenberg Virus Detected in Lancashire
UK - A case of Schmallenberg virus [SBV] has been reported in Lancashire.
The Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) has found evidence of SBV in a malformed calf from a cattle herd in Lancashire.
This is the first case of SBV to be reported in the county and indicates that Schmallenberg virus was present early in 2012 because damage to a calf follows infection early in pregnancy.
