Schmallenberg Found in North England

09 October 2012

UK - Positive samples of Schmallenberg (SBV) have been found in two Northern English counties - Yorkshire and Northumberland.

This is the further North the virus has spread since it was discovered last November.

SBV is spread via midges and whilst it causes few conditions in adult cattle, the infection can result in congenital disorders of calves, stillbirths and abortions.
