SPAIN - COAG (Coordinator of Farmers Organisations) is organising protests this week in the main milk producing regions to raise awareness of the plight of the dairy industry.

The protesters are asking the government to act immediately with regulations to prevent the disappearance of the dairy and livestock sectors.

"Farmers are being forced to sell their milk at €.27 cents a litre, when production costs are above €.32 cents a litre," explained Miguel Blanco, Secretary General of COAG.

COAG believes that domestic production controlled by French and German companies is pushing the price of milk down, and is calling on the government to take back control of Spanish production.
