The hearing will begin at 10.30 am in Court 76 and the court usually rises at 4.30 pm. A decision is likely to follow several weeks later.

The Trust is acting alone in mounting this legal challenge in which it will ask the court to quash the decision to authorise culling made by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural affairs in December 2011.

The Trust will ask the court to review the decision on the basis of three grounds:

  1. That the culling of badgers will spread TB.
  2. The cost impact assessment underpinning DEFRA’s decision is flawed.
  3. Guidance which DEFRA issued to Natural England is invalid.
