Cattle markets drift lower as BSE testing progresses

Oregon - Not one, but a half-dozen additional bovine spongiform encephalopathy tests were ordered this past week to look at brain tissue of an older cow that on June 10 retested positive. It’s the first native-born BSE case in the United States.
No reports were released by midweek, and it may be early July before the U.S. Department of Agriculture makes a public report on its findings. The animal was first tested in November, and the carcass was incinerated after brain tissues were saved for laboratory work.
