Emerald Expo 2012: Dairy, Livestock Event Launched
IRELAND - The Minister for Agriculture, Food & Marine, Simon Coveney recently launched Emerald Expo 2012. Emerald Expo 2012 is supported by the Irish Holstein Friesian Association (www.IHFA.ie ) in association with Alltech Ireland. This international dairy event & livestock show is taking place at Cillin Hill, Kilkenny on Friday, July 6th and Saturday, July 7thThe new Beef from Dairy village will include technical talks from Teagasc, Bord Bia, trade experts etc. Two major beef processors - Dunbia Ireland and Slaney Foods (part of Linden Group) have kindly agreed to sponsor this initiative. According to show coordinator Richard Whelan: “We have strong support from all the major beef breed societies and as we await the abolition of milk quotas there are many opportunities to develop a profitable cattle enterprise (contract calf rearing, calf to beef, cull cows etc) on dairy farms."
Also new is an international dairy conference sponsored by Alltech, who have their European HQ at Dunboyne. Cathal McCormack, Country Manager for Alltech says: “This conference is of great interest to all milk producers.”
Karen McBride from Wondermilk, Beijing will talk on milk prospects in China and Nigel Lok, a milk producer from South Africa will speak on using technology to maximise production from grass.
