Senate Action on Farm Bill Expected in Early June
US - Congress continues to move forward on the 2012 Farm Bill. The full Senate is expected to begin debate and consideration on the Farm Bill after the Memorial Day recess.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has not indicated the exact date when the Senate will move to the bill, but IDFA is preparing for imminent action.
“We are working closely with a number of Senate offices and are hopeful that there will be an amendment to keep supply management out of the Farm Bill,” said Jerry Slominski, IDFA vice president of legislative and economic affairs. “We think the bill will take several days, if not two or three weeks, to complete, so we have some time to work out details.”
On the House side, it is rumored that the House Agriculture Committee will mark up a bill in mid-June.
IDFA supports a compromise producer safety net that is not tied to a supply management program in the new Farm Bill. Members are encouraged to continue their efforts to reach out to Congress with this message.
