Increase in TB Cases Leads to National Campaign
CHILE - The Chilean Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) is continuing to provide information and carry out campaigns with regard to bovine tuberculosis (TB), in a bid to eradicate the disease.

SAG has created two TB zones. In first zone, the Region of La Araucania, which holds 71 per cent of Chile's cattle herd, it is hoped TB will be fully eradicated.
The second zone is the Region of Arica and Parinacota, in this zone, SAG is aiming to merely control the disease.
SAG is hoping that through campaigns at market and slaughterhouses, local farmers will become aware of the plan and restrict animal movements between the regions.
The Minister of SAG, Leonidas Valdivieso said that recently there have been a large number of herds testing positive with TB. He hopes that this plan will help farmers improve profitability and competitiveness, whilst also ensuring the safety of products.
"It's success depends largely on the participation and collaboration of farmers, who will be the main beneficiaries," he said.
