IIlegal Movement Causes FMD in Caprivi

20 January 2012

NAMIBIA - There have been two further outbreaks of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Nambia.

Both outbreaks occurred in the Caprivi region.

Both outbreaks were a result of illegal movement of cattle from Masikili area. Booster vaccination of cattle within a 40km radius of the primary outbreak is almost complete. Clinical surveillance of all cattle within the Caprivi region is continuing. Movement restrictions remain in force.
