Mexico Exports Second cattle Shipment To Turkey

MEXICO and TURKEY - The second shipment of more than 19,000 cattle has been sent from Mexico to Turkey, according to the National Health Service, Food Safety and Food Quality (SENASA).

The agency within the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) stated that the cattle exported came from Chihuahua, Jalisco, Nayarit and Zacatecas.

He explained that the final destination of the livestock is Balgat City, province of Ankara, Turkey.

The ship is estimated to reach Turkey on the 11 January, 2012.

SENASICA noted that a first shipment of around 6,000 cattle was sent out of Mexico on 6 October. The second shipment consited of nearly 9,000 animals for immediate slaughter and more than 10,000 for growth.

He said this is the result of joint work between producers, Mexican and federal and state governments, who have make an effort to meet the health requirements of the international market.

He recalled that efforts to make these commercial operations began on 28 July with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey to export cattle to slaughter and fattening from Mexico.

SENASICA reported that negotiations continue to open new markets for Mexican producers, and is already negotiating export protocols with countries like Syria, Egypt and Lebanon, among others.

Finally, he noted that those producers interested in exporting cattle to Turkey should refer to the requirements set out on SENASICA's website.
