FINLAND - Prices for pig meat and dairy products will rise next spring, according to the President of Finland's Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK), Juha Marttila.

Price increases are linked to an upswing in the world food price index.

Mr Marttila says higher prices will be visible particularly in foodstuffs with a relatively high commodity content, such as meat and dairy products.

Higher costs for wheat used in pig feed will, in particular, raise the price of pork.

On the other hand, bread prices will not similarly rise owing to a lower commodity content, YLE.fi reports.

The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) yesterday announced that the world food price index had again risen to a new record in December.
