Merial is aware of the allegations made by PETA against PLRS.

At this time, Merial has no reason to believe that any of the PETA allegations, if true, had anything to do with Merial. Merial has not used the services of PLRS during the time period described by PETA. During the company's past involvement with PLRS, they were under different management.

Merial is an animal health company that discovers, develops and manufactures products to prevent disease and improve the well-being of companion and production animals. Our business is the health and welfare of animals, so our commitment to their care may be seen in every activity of the company, especially in the research we do. Merial has a strong policy on protecting animal welfare and meets or exceeds all relevant requirements of local, national and international laws and regulations.

It is scientifically and legally necessary to test veterinary medicines and vaccines in order to evaluate their safety and efficacy. Such testing not only protects and benefits pets and livestock that will be treated, but also safeguards the people who care for them, protects the environment and helps maintain food safety. When non-animal options are not available, Merial supports the humane use of animal tests as part of this process. Merial supports ongoing research to identify and develop scientifically valid non-animal test methods.
