June Milk Production Up 2.7 Per Cent
US - This report is released on July 19, 2010, by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Agricultural Statistics Board, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Milk production in the 23 major States during June totaled 15.2 billion pounds, up 2.7 per cent from June 2009. May revised production at 15.8 billion pounds, was up 1.5 percent from May 2009. The May revision represented an increase of 40 million pounds or 0.3 per cent from last month's preliminary production estimate.
Production per cow in the 23 major States averaged 1,816 pounds for June, 67 pounds above June 2009.
The number of milk cows on farms in the 23 major States was 8.35 million head, 87,000 head less than June 2009, but 10,000 head more than May 2010.
April - June milk production up 1.7 per cent
Milk production in the U.S. during the April - June quarter totaled 49.7 billion pounds, up 1.7 percent from the April - June quarter last year. The average number of milk cows in the U.S. during the quarter was 9.11 million head, 151,000 head less than the same period last year.
