UK - Producers who sell meat directly to the consumer, or are considering doing so, will benefit from increased support thanks to a new expert position created by EBLEX.

Michael Richardson, formerly EBLEX Eastern Regional Manager, has taken on a national role in response to an increasing number of enquiries from farmers who sell their own meat and want advice on managing the production process.

The appointment is part of a wider reorganisation of the regional team undertaken by Nick Allen following his promotion to Sector Director.

Mr Allen said: “We reviewed our regional management structure with the needs of our levy payers in mind and have made some changes as a result.

“As well as creating a national direct selling role, we will also be increasing our focus on stock selection and strengthening our relationship with the abattoir sector.

“In addition, the regional team has been divided into a north and south function so we can offer a more coordinated approach when responding to our levy payers.”

Current North West Regional Manager Clive Brown will take responsibility for the Northern region and Phil Hadley, Regional Manager for the South West, will head up the Southern region.

Steve Powdrill, currently North East Regional Manager, will take a lead role in stock selection issues and training on a national basis, and act as a liaison point with abattoirs. This will result in the recruitment of a new Regional Manager in the Northern region.

Finally, Jonathan Eckley has replaced Nick Allen as South East Regional Manager, having previously worked within the Market Intelligence department of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).
