Focus on Dry Cows For Improved Performance

28 October 2009

UK - DairyCo are holding meetings across the UK to look at how effective feeding and nutrition of dairy cows will improve early lactations and performance.

The meeting will look at how careful management can carry cows through transition smoothly, sustaining fertility and maximising productivity.

Hugh Black, extenstion officer at Dairy Co, says that it is just as important to balance requirements for dry cow rationing as for milking rations, which is why the meeting will look at dry cow feeding systems and the nutritional requirements of the dry cow.

Dry period lengths and body condition scores will be discussed to help producers get on the right track for a successful lactation.
