The UFU says the decision will boost the trade in dairy products.

Volumes for Skimmed Milk Powder increased from 7,239 tonnes to 24,098 tonnes. Butter rose from 2,085 tonnes to 5,083 tonnes and Butter Oil increased from 180 tonnes to 1,596 tonnes.

UFU President Graham Furey said, "Through our Dairy Roadmap we have been lobbying the EU to use the Export Refund system more effectively to keep product moving rather than being left in intervention and compounding the over supply situation. With export refund volumes increasing and a strengthening Euro against Sterling, this should be a further boost to the dairy sector following on from improved Fonterra and United Dairy Farmers Auction results in recent months."
