Ratu Savenaca said statistics were still forthcoming, also test results determining the number of cows infected by this bacterial, reports FijiTimesOnline.

As of last Friday, the local quarantine department tested 3317 cows from dairy farms in Tailevu.

According to the FijiTimesOnline report, of that, 282 cows tested positive, 170 milking cows and 63 dry cows.

"Tailevu is our big supplier since it supplies above 40 per cent of milk, particularly from the Wainivesi, Waimaro farms and farms in and around Korovou," Ratu Savenaca said.

He said his team was also collating information from stakeholders and from the field for its own purpose.

But he said Rewa Dairy was getting its supply of milk from other non-quarantined farms.

He added no changes as well had been effected on its import quota as they continue to assess and analyse the situation on the ground.
