Cattle Starve in Panama
PANAMA - Officials have reported the first cattle deaths in the province of Los Santos, as a consequence of the strong drought currently plaguing Azuero. The dry lands are not yielding sufficient food for livestock, and many become weak and die.

Two cattle in El Guayacán and three calves in El Pajonal, sites located in the communities of El Cedro and Corozal, were confirmed to have died by falling and not having the strength to get back up, reports Presna.
According to the news organisation, Cristina Rodríguez, one of the owners affected, said that three other calves in El Pajonal had died in the same way.
Javier Cárdenas, a resident of the community of El Guayacán, said that in areas such as Guabas, El Cedro, El Corozal, and El Guásimo, located in the center of Azuero, the situation has become critical for cattle-raisers in recent weeks.
Yesterday, via telephone, the director of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) in Los Santos, Joaquin Barahona, said that he is recommending farmers who have problems providing sufficient fodder for their livestock to feed them sugar cane.
