Second BSE Cow Not Likely To Impact Beef Demand Negatively

US - Beef exports for January-April were up 161.6% from a year earlier but the 2005 tonnage is still 77.3% below the first 4 months of 2003. The cow that was retested for BSE came back positive. She was 12 years old and spent her life on one farm in Texas. The announcement that the cow tested positive was released on June 24. The futures market for live cattle opened but less than $1.00 per cwt down on Monday but ended the day with some gain on all contracts from the Friday close.
