The disease that first broke out in Chiforo Sub-county in March has since spread to all sub-counties in the district and parts of Moyo District with Ofua and Pakelle worst hit by the pandemic.

Mr John Draru, a farmer in Chiforo, told Daily Monitor on Sunday that it has been a trying moment for his family since the outbreak of the fever in his kraal, killing almost three quarters of his animals. “You cannot imagine that the disease has almost finished my entire kraal of 70 animals though they were vaccinated,” said Mr Draru. Although the district veterinary department recently responded by vaccinating all the cattle, the disease has continued to kill the animals.
