Anti-BSE control measures 'failed'

UK - Serious failures in anti-BSE controls led to cattle illegally entering the food chain with cattle aged over 30 months being slaughtered for human consumption in breach of UK legislation, according to the Meat Hygiene Service's 2004/05 report. Eighteen animals in this age group entered the human food chain between September, 2004, and March this year, the MHS report says. MHS director of operations Mike Greaves wrote to all operational staff after the failure was discovered, the report says.
