Mr Walshe said farmers had endured significant costs and inconvenience in the fight to eradicate the disease from the national herd. He said, “The contribution made by the farming community to eradicating the disease must now be rewarded with a substantial reduction in the costs associated with testing.”

IFA have made a detailed submission to the Department of Agriculture setting out the measures needed to protect the status of the national herd, and at the same time to bring about a decrease in costs and the relaxation of movement controls.
