Wales to Become One Big Bluetongue Zone

UK - The whole of England and Wales could become a bluetongue protection zone within weeks following the Welsh Assembly Government’s decision to extend the zone to the whole of Wales instead of opting for a gradual roll-out, county by county.

The move is subject to the availability of bluetongue vaccine and no new outbreak of disease, and is expected to happen around the end of this month or the beginning of next.

This will enable vaccination to take place across the whole of Wales within a matter of weeks and ensure the return of the free movement of livestock and trading in time for the important autumn sales.
