Raising BSE Age Limit a Step Closer
EU - EU scientists have acknowledged that raising the age limit on cattle for BSE testing would have a negligible effect on public health, opening the door for a change in legislation. The move would save the industry millions of pounds every year and became a step closer this week following two reports from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
Around 10 million cattle are tested for BSE in the EU 15 and the number of cases has fallen dramatically in recent years from 2,164 in 2001 to just 149 in 2007.
