Parmalat S.p.A. has confirmed the interest of its Australian subsidiary, Parmalat Australia Limited, in Australian Co-Operative Foods Limited (“Dairy Farmers”), one of Australia’s largest branded dairy businesses.

The opportunity is currently being reviewed in conjunction with Murray Goulburn Co-Operative Co. Limited (“Murray Goulburn”), Australia’s largest milk processor. The process is still at a preliminary and non binding stage.

The statement follows the application filed by Parmalat Australia and Murray Goulburn with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) to seek clearance for this proposed combination.

Parmalat is the third group to seek regulator clearance, following New Zealand's Fonterra and National Foods, owned by Japan's Kirin Holdings, reports have said.
