US meat processor expects Japan business

US - Following the Japan Food Commission approval of a report on bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) disease Wednesday, U.S. cattle leaders are staying cautiously optimistic about trade resumption. Meanwhile, at least one meatpacker will host Japanese beef buyers next week, expecting the border re-opening. Essentially, the Food Commission ruled U.S. beef carries extremely low risk of infection with proper precautions. In addition, eating U.S. beef is little different from the risk from eating Japanese beef, the Food Commission reported.
